When your unemployed you try not to watch daytime TV but inevitably you do.
You know it's a waste of time and garbage, but you do it anyway.
If you watch enough day time TV it inevitably reminds you of softball.
TV shows that remind me of Softball ( too many channels for a Top Ten)
Games Shows - FAMILY FEUD, THE PRICE IS RIGHT, JEOPARDY, etc - Watching at home you think you know all the answers and that if you went on the show you would win. Just like in softball everyone thinks if they managed they would know all the answers and win
Soap Operas - are just like softball DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA
Oprah - sophisticated talk show - le creme de la creme. It's like playing softball in central park where people talk about politics, religion and fiscal policy. Classy
Jerry Springer - GOONS EVERYWHERE. Kinda like playing softball in the Bronx.
Fights break out, people say mean and hateful things. On Jerry people do anything for attention and ratings. In the hood its all holds bar - anything goes to get an edge and win
Other Talk Shows - too many to mention, not worth your time. In softball, it's like joining too many teams - after a while it all becomes a blur.
PA1 - Public Access TV - Where you see you friendly neighborhood low budget bodegero using sex and bachata music to try and sell milk.
In softball, the same guy plays first base on your team and is always on the cell phone during games.
ESPN - might be your best day time television source.
Informative, accurate, and usually not depressing.
ESPN is equivalent to a well run softball league that you wake up and can't wait to get there and play - see citysoftball.com
YES/SNY - show Yankee/Mets exhibition games which for the most part are meaningless.
In softball these channels represents leagues with no competition where winning or losing doesn't mean anything. Also think Pickup softball whee the competitive edge is missing.
MSNBC -is the channel you want to avoid. Too much depressing economic/political news makes you want to. In other words, it's real life. In softball think YORKVILLE - this league sucks and you wan to avoid. We play softball to forget our real life problems, not to create more.
CBS - MARCH MADNESS NCAA TOURNAMENT - A must watch actually - upsets, multiple games, and excitement. Most one day softball tournaments are exciting and fun to play in.
E! - watch TRUE LIFE HOLLYWOOD STORIES
GOSSIP!!!!!!!! GOSSIP!!!!!! GOSSIP!!!!!!!!

In softball this is so true.

Softball lets you keep the little kid inside of you and also get high while playing.

In softball we join the same leagues and make the same mistakes again and again
FOOD NETWORK - learn a new skill to satisfy your hunger.
To succeed in softball you constantly have to try and improve/develop your skills.
LIFE Channel -get in touch with your feminine side.
In softball, players harass ladies that walk by in the hopes of getting in touch with them. Also maybe you can watch a Lifetime show the day of a big coed game so you can relate to you female team members better in key situations
VH1/MTV - see young people make fools of themselves on reality TV shows so they can become rich and famous. In softball, see grown men act like fools so they can win a game, money, or brag about how good they are regardless of what it does to personal friendships.
SCI FI - watch nerdy shows likes X-Files and Star Trek to explore your imagination.
In softball, nerds keep batting statistics to get their swerve on

Softball - you usually have to pay a premium to get a good pitcher to play with you.

Modified Tournament Reminder
Meeting on Wednesday March 26 at Royale Sports, 4201 42nd street, Brooklyn between 1st and 2nd avenue at 7 pm. It's important to have a representative there. I am expecting 16 teams to be in this tournament, therefore there will be an morning and afternoon sessions (8 teams in the morning and the afternoon). Please let me know which sessions is best for you.
This tournament is modified pitch. Players on the ASA pitching lists and along with some other pitchers who is determined to be non modified or questionable pitchers are not allowed to pitch. example, john miranda, mike sanchez, carmelo, etc. If you are unsure of the pitching, please speak with me so there are no confusion about the pitching. Allowed to pitch in this tournament are guys that pitches like, JD, John Brown, Stu, Fran, Cedric, myself. AGAIN, PLEASE SPEAK WITH ME SO THERE ARE NOT SURPRISES WHEN YOU ARE PLAYING.
As important as it is to be there for this meeting, it's also important to take care of any financial obligations. So please bring the entry fee ($325).

Metal Detector in the Sand
I'm still out there trying to find the right job. Almost 2 months now. Hustling everyday dealing with recruiter Bullshit !! Company Bullshit!!! Economic Bullshit!!!!!!!!!
It's all Bullshit!!!!!!!!
It's ain't easy.
Speaking of not easy, I've been talking to some of my contacts in the softball world and it seems finding a good pitcher also ain't easy (duh - no surprise)
Seeing that I have a lot of time on my hands, it got me to thinking which is tougher:
Finding a good job or finding a good softball pitcher?
Looking for both is like the guy at the beach combing the sand looking for lost treasure or jewelry with a metal detector. Almost impossible.
Let's Compare Top Ten Style

10. Travel.
Everyone wants a job that's has a short commute.
Most pitchers want to play close to home.
Edge : Work. Taking the train or bus on your own is a lot easier than the random luck associated with finding a pitcher that is willing to travel or lives close by.
9. Atmosphere :
An ideal work environment is one where your work with nice people who want to make money, produce, learn and are not assholes. This combination is very difficult to find.
An ideal pitcher is one that wants to win but isn't an asshole or crazy also very difficult.
Edge Work - Odds of finding normal people at work are better than finding a normal pitcher
8. Work Attire
Business casual or jeans is the way you want to work, but you can't always have your cake and eat it to - it's out of your control.
Unless you play in a mega strict league any kind of fashion usually goes for a player/pitcher so usually it's a non issue.
Edge: Softball Pitcher
7. Benefits/Vacation/Sick Day Policy:
Most employers offer medical, dental, 401K plans, vacation and a few sick days as terms of the employment.
Most stud pitchers want food, car service, favors, and other perks that usually cost you time, money and headaches.

6. Emerging Markets/Growth Opportunities:
No one wants to be stuck in a dead end job so your looking for something that you can get pumped up for and still pay the bills is ideal, but in this market opportunities are limited.
Most good pitchers want to win and be surrounded by defenders that make them look good which is a lot easier to control.
Edge : Finding a good pitcher
5. Happy Hour :
You want to find a job where people go out for drinks once and a while and blow off steam. It's about 50-50 depending where you work. As for softball pitchers most want to drink or "relax" after games and that’s usually pretty easy and natural to do.

You want to work somewhere where you know the systems and you know they aren't cheap on using cutting edge systems to promote the business.
Softball Pitchers usually don't use modern technology much other than cell phones.

Early Season Tournament News
Pitchers and catchers report to Florida and Arizona today so we're getting close to the season.
A good way a lot of people like to start their season is to play in a Tournament.
