Jet Peace of Mind

There was NO last minute heart breaking loss.
There was NO bad call that cost us the game.
There was NO brain freeze play by one of our players that cost us the game.
What there was was a Much better Opponent across the line of scrimmage who tore our supposed #1 defense to shreds.
We lost to a Much Better Team.I can live with that as I slept well last night as we did have a very exciting last 4 weeks of the season and a team with the letter ETS in their name finally earned some respect. As for the future nothing, absolutely nothing, is promised but Sanchez and Revis Island
will give us a reason to watch and hope in 2010 and beyond.

Jet Locke

It's January 22nd and honestly I don't give a fuck about softball. Yeah emails and phone calls for the 2010 season have been happening, but that's all planning and scheming for a season that's over 2 months away. Really how can I possible care when the Jets,
yes I said that right the J-E-T-S JETS!! JETS!! JETS!! are in the AFC Championship Game!!!!!! Wow.. The odds are long against us as we face a great Colt team that went undefeated in games that mattered to them this season and are led by the world's greatest QB, Peyton Manning We are no means a LOCK to advance, but this whole Jet experience reminds me of another Locke, John Locke, no not English philosopher regarded as one of the most influential of Enlightenment thinkers, rather one of my favorite characters for my Favorite TV Show Lost
Locke is mysterious, intellectual and believes in mystical/spiritual explanations for why things happen in the world. Most NFL fans know why the Jets have been successful lately :
(1) good running game
(2) Defense
and (3) Luck/Faith/Destiny.
To win this week the Jet offense will have to score early and control the clock while the defense must disrupt Manning. Players will decide the game, but what of fate/destiny?? Ah that's the part that reminds me of John Locke
Top Ten John Locke Quotes that applies to the JETS
10. "Don't mistake coincidence for fate." - Colts let us in the playoffs and now we have to play them again? This is not a coincidence
9/8 "You Should have never left the Island" - Jet fans who quit on this team, and you know who you are, just come back as Locke would say "The Jet Island won't let you leave"
7. "Don't tell me what I can't do." - Jet defiance, arrogance, confidence in the face of overwhelming odds is undeniable
6. "This is my destiny!" - Loyal Jet fans at their rally feel this way
5. "If you Push the button, you save the world" - This is insane. Makes no sense. But the Jet season is also insane and makes no sense. Yet both involve pure blind Faith. As Jet fans, we have no way of effecting the game, all we have is blind faith.
4. "Me, well, I'm a man of faith. Do you really think all this... is an accident? We were brought here for a purpose, for a reason, all of us. Each one of us was brought here for a reason" - The Jet have ironically been a plane crash disaster (pun intended) of a team for years, but we as fans have survived, persevered. Jet purpose is clear now
3."I've done everything you wanted me to do... so WHY did you do this ? WHY ?!" Every Jet fans will feel this way if we lose at the end of the game
2. "Let's talk about the 800 lb GoRilla in the room Ben. Why did you kill me" - Like Locke, the Jets have risen from the dead.
and the Number One John Locke quote that applies to the JETS
1."I'm not lost anymore." - neither are the JETS
OK this blog has helped me get my Jet Nerd on and as a Jet fan I'm ready for Sunday, all I ask is that we don't lose in the end. That would be foul.
Much More important News:
I haven't mentioned anything about the disaster and emergency in Haiti but if you can donate anything please do so.
I used UNICEF http://www.unicef.org/ , but their are many other organizations that are involved in this humanitarian effort, please donate if you can because it is so much more than a game

Goons I uh mean ...Jet Fans are People Too

Jet fans have been accused of being loud obnoxious goons and yeah some of them like me resemble that remark. But we have paid the price over the years in heart breaking losses, disappointments, and failures. Jet fans are far from perfect and our imperfect Jet goon leader Rex Ryan
has our imperfect goon team playing solid defense now it's on to the next one - the greatest challenge awaits as we have to overcome the best team, the Colts, with the most perfect player, Peyton Manning., who didn't come out in the draft 12 years ago and shunned us. Moreover, the Colts rested their players against us 3 weeks ago thereby letting us into the playoffs. The irony is simply insane. Honestly, as a Jet fan it hasn't all sunk in yet.

Glass House

They say "Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones”. Everyone has come down pretty hard on Mark MacGwire this week, and rightfully so, for taking way too long to admit to steroid use
(see fellow blogger and softball enthusiastic Dio Jackson's blog
http://newyorkhighlander.blogspot.com/2010/01/on-your-mark-mcguire-is-setshoot.html ) but I have a slightly differ take on the matter. For years we've heard that chicks dig the long ball
and there is no crying in baseball
but the bottom line is MacGwire cheated and now he has paid the price in the court of public opinion. Steroid use is wrong and dangerous, but I feel many people are hypocritical in their criticism of athletes who take it. If roles were reversed, and Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED's) were not banned, I would say most people would probably do them to play the game they loved, be on TV, date hot chicks, and make millions. I would have done them under those circumstances. So before you bad mouth a steroid using athlete for using PED's asks yourself if you would have done the same?

Old Fashion Way

Respect in life is earned, not given away. Sports is no different. Last Saturday, my team, the NY Jets got their respect the old-fashioned way - They Earned it. After hearing for two weeks how they only got into the playoffs b/c the Colts-Bengals rested their starters, the Jets went out on the road and won. Good stuff as this team is all about progression. This win legitimized stud players like Darrell Revisand showed how important it is for roles players to step up like placekicker Jay Feeley
who had to take on punting duties at the last minute.

Maximum Respect!!!!

Coming in Da Club though the Back Door

Happy 2010 Everyone.
While I might not kick the new year off as provocatively as J Lo did on new yearsI will do my best to start off the new year right by blogging about the Playoffs.
Playoffs? Playoffs? Playoffs? No I am not freaking out about the NFL like Jim Mora

rather I wanted to discuss the right way to get into the playoffs in any sport, including softball. It's simple you want to EARN IT. In softball if the other team doesn't show up and you win by forfeit it means nothing. Their is no honor/sense of accomplishment in it
Well, my favorite NFL team the NY Jets essentially got into the playoffs when the Colts and Bengals forfeited their games NFL style by benching all their starters the last 2 weeks. Now don't get me wrong long suffering loyal Jet fans like myself and the crazy fat guy with no shirt on at the game last Sunday (see picture below)
will take it. But no matter what our promising but trash talking head coach says
we could not get into the NFL playoff rope through the front velvet rope door
rather we snuck in through the back door
A while back I blogged that softball was like a club
http://softballinsider.blogspot.com/2007/04/league-da-club.html, and the playoffs in any sport represents the ultimate club b/c your in an exclusive group, party with the pretty girls and you need to get your swagger on in order to take down the competition. If you ever sneak into the club you should never talk trash. leave that to Ocho Cinco
